Themes included in the newsletter will be:
Topical ideas By being topical you have the chance to create content that captures the essence of what everyone is thinking, it is of the moment and can be used to great effect as a trigger for people to take note of your content. For example, as I write this there is a swine flu pandemic going on, included in the newsletter could be ideas about how to interject topical items such as swine flu into content around the following subjects.
Applying the topical issue of swine flu to your niche can tap into issues that are on people's minds using the following headlines and content ideas:
You may not need content for such niches but it is very easy to simply transpose the idea to your niche. Obviously not every niche is covered, only those that are in need of great ideas. If you have a niche you would like covered let me know and I will try to develop some ideas for a future newsletter. Topical content is valuable as there are probably few competitors who apply current issues to the niche. The main news media tends to cover on a very general basis and does not apply news to specific niches, if you are the only one doing that you are in a unique position. A wise man once said "Everyone wants to read what everyone is thinking about." Evergreen ideas These ideas stand the test of time, are relevant in 10, 20, 30 years time. Content like this will always be able to attract links over a steady period of time. Evergreen content is the kind that solved eternal problems such as "How can I get rich", or "How to lose weight." Other kinds of evergreen content could include "Best views of London" or "Richest banks of history". Each niche has it's evergreen content and creating new and fresh content that can go on and on collecting links is a true asset. It is of course possible to revisit evergreen topics with different perspectives each time. This allows you to use similar themes whilst keeping content fresh. Magazine publishers who have be around for a while use this to great affect. Discussion sparking This theme can also be extremely powerful. The object is to create and own a niche relevant discussion on your website. The temperature of the discussion can range from mild banter to extreme violence. Both can get you links, but it is vital you stick with a level of temperature you are comfortable with. Mild ideas would be
Whilst a more incendiary discussion would be:
Now before you decide to send me angry emails saying how wrong I am it's important to note that the winning of the argument does not mean that you have been successful. These do not have to represent your POV, in fact it helps if you are somewhat dispassionate from the argument. It's useful when creating discussion based content to be able to step back from the argument, away from the emotion and the passion. You need to have already considered the differing sides of the argument, allowing you to guide the discussion where you want it to go, which is on and on. Coming up with ideas for such content can be difficult if you are emotionally attached to the subject as there is a chance you may get sucked into to your own creation. And we wouldn't want that would we? If you can get a third party to look at your niche and identify potential fissures which occur with regularity, all the better. Say you're a supporter of a certain football club and have a fan blog, it would be difficult to come up with a discussion that truly represented a fissure, whilst staying neutral yourself. Getting a dispassionate party involved in the process who understands the nature of what you are trying to do can enable you to find really juicy issues. You don't have to be neutral, but it helps. Remember, what we are trying to do here is get links, not further your opinion. Stand back and see the big picture. These fissures are open sores within the niche, they erupt whenever someone starts a discussion regarding the topic. Every niche has them, they occur
The thing to remember about all this, is it's not simply about being controversial or having a loudmouth. It's about using controversy to achieve a specific objective. The objective being links and potential buzz. How much is all this going to cost me?For $50 a month you get:
